Boom Town was created as a submission for the GMTK Game Jam 2024. The theme was "Built to scale". We completed development within 48 hours.
The game is playable in browser on PC and mobile, we recommend playing on PC as it might not render properly on all mobile devices.

I played like 10h+ and it's incredible !

Few bug while i was playing :

- Demolish park still count as total building and mission even if destroy
- Demolish Wind turbine just a the moment of the missions needs xx buildings doesn't make you fail

My personnal best is 88 but quest by Mayor Mean is very random sometimes after 80 and in each game it's a 50/50 of the feasibility of the quest 

But overall for a 48H game that's by far the most addictive game i've played for this jam ! 
I would really enjoy a full game !

Thanks for letting us know about those bugs, the fact that you even used the demolish feature means that you were employing some advanced strategies.

The randomness of quests can definitely make or break a run. It turned out to be quite difficult to find the balance between "there's always a way out so it is too easy" and "there's no way to complete this quest" (we erred on the side of the latter)

Yes i destroyed my village when i have day off to reduce the difficulty of next quest by the mayor mean so each run is a easy day 50-70 game but after mamamia it's to random !

but overall each time the quest i lose to is the 

increase income cap

or

total amount gold all other quest is ok

Yeah, getting multiple income quests in a row really is the run killer 😅 Its requirement probably scales too hard for the player's economy to keep up with once you reach a certain size

Loved the game, especially since it was made in only 48 hours. Music was relaxing, and the gameplay even more so. Would definitely recommend. If you plan to expand the game even more, I would like a building like the turbine that buffs houses. No rush though. 

Originally we planned for the park to do that, but giving every nearby house +1 citizen was very strong, and working with decimal points for citizens just felt weird, so we decided to cut it. Thanks for the kind words!

Incredible game for the 48 h span !!! Did 69 as best score. The depth of the gameplay affects the choices and that's very interesting. The game is visually and audibly coherent. Just wow! 

Sometimes I had tiles that spawned outside the screen or under the mission panel. So they were useless. It lacks a quick restart button. But apart from that, everything is perfect.
